Maremma Park
An Impracticable and Wild Chain of Hills Descending towards the Sea with Sandy Beaches and Cliffs...
... surrounded by marshes, pine woods, cultivated fields and grazing lands.
The Park area, delimited by the railway line Livorno-Roma, stretches along the Tyrrhenian coast from Principina a Mare to Alberese, and up to Talamone. The Park is characterized by important geographical elements such as the last stretch of the river Ombrone, the orographic system of the mountains of the Uccellina which reaches 417 meters of height in Poggio Lecci, the marsh area of the Trappola, and the coast which is both sandy and characterized by steep cliffs.
History
Despite being characterized by a thick vegetation, Uccellina Park is rich in very heterogeneous historical-artistic evidences of great importance, dating back to various epochs and resulting from different realities and needs. Today, the Park territory involves the Municipalities of Grosseto, Magliano in Tuscany, and Orbetello, while in the past the area was under several rules.
Itineraries in the Park
Maremma Park, facing the Tyrrheanian Sea and Arcipelago Toscano National Park, covers an area of 25 km with a chain of hills sloping down to the sea, sandy beaches, and high cliffs, surrounded by marshes, pinewoods, cultivated fields, and pastures. Among the intense perfumes of aromatic herbs, colored berries, and animal calls, the Park welcomes the visitors showing its gentle and at the same time wild side. A contrast awakening and freeing the pleasure to feel like being in a recovered heaven. An occasion to "fix the hand of your clock", harmonizing them with the time of your soul.
The Park is open all year round, all the days of the week. Before entering, it is necessary to purchase the entrance tickets in the Visitor Centers. The itineraries can be followed both by individuals and groups, led by a tour guide or not, according to the period of the year.
